First Thing ... Greece!

Even though it has been close to 7 years since I visited Greece, it remains one of my favourite places to travel. The people, the culture, the food, the history, everything merges together so beautifully that I couldn't help fall in love with it all. Now, when I see Greece come up in the NEWS due to the economic troubles I can't help but feel sad, especially since there are very few places in the world where you can literally have any kind of vacation you want. A romantic vacation, a party vacation, a family vacation, an island getaway, a historical trip, a stag weekend, you name it and Greece will have an island that caters to your needs.

So, continuing my somewhat ongoing feature of "First thing that comes to your mind when I say..." I present to you what people think when I say "Greece!".

@ilivetotravel - Strikes

@backpackforever - Debt crisis, Windex (<-- from My Big Fat Greek Wedding), gyros, yogurt dip, the white + blue houses of Santorini, Byzantine music...

@ZipSetRachel - A great honeymoon destination ! Beautiful Islands and beaches.

@KatrinaMauro - 1st thing for Greece: "shit" (you maybe chose the wrong person for this country - I practically hated Greece)

@Thompson_Film - Mythology, and that's because I was writing about Greek mythology today! :D

@KitWhelan - Islands!

@claudiabia - Santorini

@Vegabond3Live - white and blue!

@HipTraveler - "Santorini sunset" ... pebble beaches, Mykonos, Athens, Acropolis, baklava, gyros, Greek salads, olive oil, Greek islands, Greek mythology.

@Subtletea - Acropolis

...and there you have it. From mentions about the present economic conditions to greek mythology, which is the big thing in the western movie world nowadays, to a great honeymoon destination. Greece has something for everyone!

A special thanks to Russell (@russell_Oz) for providing all the wonderful pictures depicting Greece in all its glory.

  1. lmao...sorry to be the only bummer here! There were things I liked about the Islands, but I really disliked Athens, wasn't highly impressed with the ruins I saw, and felt many of the people were rude, and that people that were trying to sell me items or tickets were either sneaky or blatantly lying to me. So, "shit" was the first thing that came to mind when you posed the question to me.
    I will say that the ferry rides through the islands were fun, and that the islands themselves were beautiful...especially Santorini (out of the islands I hit). I have AMAZING photos from the trip, and did have fun...but I've had better experiences elsewhere.

  2. Thanks for the comment Katrina. I really liked your honesty. I think we have all felt like you do some place or the other. Although not in Greece, I know the feeling of people coming to sell stuff and not leaving you alone from historical sites in India. It's so bad sometimes that it starts to bother me even when I'm visiting places like Taj Mahal with foreign friends of mine.
